slow down

5.5.09

alicia keys is telling and convincing me to take my time.

that was in 2003 and in 6 years later it's reminding me a lesson I thought I'd learned.

Not to get ahead of myself because what's coming is going to be enough that I don't need to charge into it. Life is already a blink. I want to see as much as I can in that one glimpse. The human eye can pick up a lot of information in a second. I wonder what the upload rate of an iris is(I am sure someone somewhere has thought that). I think I read something that a computer capable of operating at the speed of a human brain is in the works. We're flying. Light speed? We already send youtube and netflix via fiber optic cables, what's to stop us from trying to send something physical? Oh, we'd have to figured out how to destroy something before we can learn how to put it back together. I guess that's how it works?

I'm reading a book about mathematics that follows the path of philosophy, astronomy and mathematics throughout history from Greco-Roman, to the middle/dark ages, to the middle eastern arabic world and finally back to renaissance europe. I was thinking reading it that I never understood trigonometry much in school but then again I never took an astronomy class - which is what trigonometry was invented for by the greeks. I work in the film business and as I was taught and tell people - rule #1 is "See the big picture". I was learning trig equations with no idea of their practical use. IF only the teacher had on the first day read my the story of a greek philosopher who was trying to figure out the sky. Then I would've gotten it.

But such is life, a lesson learned every day, something you thought you'd never get came crystal clear. I'm still learning. Life is all around me and I'm doing my best to see it all.

Peace

take your time

the Word

have you heard? The word is Love.

April 26, 10AM on a beautiful 76 degree Sunday morning in New York City.

I started my morning off with Revolver and a blunt. Now I'm on to Rubber Soul and some reading. I picture someone in 1966 doing the same exact thing as I, listening to the Beatles and reading the New York Times. Though surely, in 1966 it was on vinyl and the paper was a page. Today it's a bit different. I've got an article about the Napoleonic code in wikipedia in one tab, this journal post in the other, and a NYtimes article about the Taliban in Pakistan in the next. There's so much going on.

"What Goes On"

Blip.fm is my new favorite website. Mine is @ blip.fm/GreatKills

Everyone should check it out. I love it. Great way to find new music and be reminded of great songs you'd forgotten about. It's now spring and June is just around the corner. It's been a long, cold winter. I'm so happy to be finally out of it. Every next day I wake up is the best day of my life and all is well.

Welcome to the Machine

"Wish You Were Here" came out in 1975.

'Welcome my Son... Welcome to the Machine'

That was 10 years prior to my birth. Some of my earliest memories (and certainly my earliest memories of music) are of listening to Pink Floyd that my father was playing. I remember hearing michael jackson with my mother. But certain songs and phrases stand out. 7 years old hearing "welcome to the machine" and maybe I got the idea, hey, what is the machine? What is this guy talking about? And I remember the feeling I got when I heard these songs. It was something different, something that I felt and took note of somewhere back in my brain.

The machine is a manufactured system that has been built and established for a long time. The machine does not have compassion or care for human beings and the things which sustain their happiness. The machine is only concerned with productivity, maximum output and efficiency. The machine is built of outer shells of armor which reflect any outside attacks. The machine can only be dismantled and REBUILT (note I do not say destroy) from within. I do not know how but I have a feeling that this is the only way.

The machine is not barnard madoff. The machine is the tools, structures and environment in which he was allowed to take advantage of so many people. Putting him in jail does not stop the machine from being used by another man with the same clever tricks. Justice is not revenge. Justice is fairness. The machine is not fair, the machine is unforgiving and merciless.

//On a side note I'm listening to the album and just as the song "Wish You Were Here" came on my father called me. //

all of the trees in the field will clap their hands

I feel that we as human beings are just as much a part of the Earth as trees. And though we lack the physical roots in the ground, for every fall and attempt to reach something higher we are drawn back towards the earth by gravity.  Which coincidentally, the story goes, was discovered by a man while he was sitting under a tree. We bind ourselves to the grass, the streets, the plains, the valleys and the mountains. We build planes and spaceships to get away or over it all but in the end we're nothing without standing on solid ground.

soothing (a beautiful day) 2006

Originally written and recorded in 2006

put me on stage and I'll change the world, period
I'm ready to die for my words and I'm serious
being alive is a funny thing if you think about it
are you really alive if you don't think about living?
or are you just another zombie walking the streets leaching
off of the nearest gift, a zombie that doesn't live
he just takes and takes, until there's no brains left,
he devours the thoughts
i'm starving, I just woke up and already I'm lost
what the fuck man?
Alex Mazz... my man should be on world tour
but it seems the world ignores what's most important

look at the wars, who gets more than a portion of the proceeds?
you're god damn right it's not a charity
what's helping you and what's helping me?
I'm killing myself just to be here

The sound is astounding
drowning out the pounding of all this
construction around me, we seek bigger and better
climbing ladders of success, filling each space, isn't a great?
a place for each of us, until there's a house where my backyard was
now the birds are gone, look what I wake up to
it's all heavy duty, like laughter isn't always from happiness
sometimes it's to hide what really is happening
you wanna ask me this
if I really care if people wanna buy my shit?
I'm out to break this monopoly
using hip-hop to expose this hypocrisy
people got a lot of dreams but they're too busy sleeping
too worried about making money instead of making love free
put me with NaS and AZ, Cormega & Foxy status Firm
what I learn I can't return
you can't buy my cost
you can't sign my thoughts

i'm ready to die for my words
because I believe in what's right for this world
the people in power won't like when we learn
that the dollar is hours and our time is earned
i'm not trying to sell records, i'm not jealous of what's better
I give respect but I see so many waste a choice for a check
it seems to get big you've gotta say what's already said
it's so repetitive, rehashed trash
like my last weeks blunt ashes and I'm tryin' to quit
i'm so tired of the bullshit, what happened to the rest?
B.I.G., L, Pac and Pun, they're all dead, it's just one big coincidence huh?
Nah... it's bigger than east verse west
I went to school and passed all my history tests
you ever heard of divide & conquer?
ever wonder why one side is dying in hunger
and the other is given enough just to keep then under control?
was it cocaine, crack or adderrol, everyone's getting high
the only difference is if it's from the block or prescribed
I can't take it
the pharmacy's laughing to the bank
I think about the working class how we've all had ashy knuckles
but they don't want you to know that they just want you to hate
and only trust your own man
god damn I can't take it

inside it's a soothing  beautiful day
outside it's not the same
