Welcome to the Machine

"Wish You Were Here" came out in 1975.

'Welcome my Son... Welcome to the Machine'

That was 10 years prior to my birth. Some of my earliest memories (and certainly my earliest memories of music) are of listening to Pink Floyd that my father was playing. I remember hearing michael jackson with my mother. But certain songs and phrases stand out. 7 years old hearing "welcome to the machine" and maybe I got the idea, hey, what is the machine? What is this guy talking about? And I remember the feeling I got when I heard these songs. It was something different, something that I felt and took note of somewhere back in my brain.

The machine is a manufactured system that has been built and established for a long time. The machine does not have compassion or care for human beings and the things which sustain their happiness. The machine is only concerned with productivity, maximum output and efficiency. The machine is built of outer shells of armor which reflect any outside attacks. The machine can only be dismantled and REBUILT (note I do not say destroy) from within. I do not know how but I have a feeling that this is the only way.

The machine is not barnard madoff. The machine is the tools, structures and environment in which he was allowed to take advantage of so many people. Putting him in jail does not stop the machine from being used by another man with the same clever tricks. Justice is not revenge. Justice is fairness. The machine is not fair, the machine is unforgiving and merciless.

//On a side note I'm listening to the album and just as the song "Wish You Were Here" came on my father called me. //
